Successful real estate professionals must move beyond a purely tactical and reactionary approach to one that is "more strategic, agile, data-driven and geared towards the optimization of the entire portfolio." Corporate Real Estate 2010

Senior executives are increasingly demanding that decisions be "data-driven." With more attention to developing real estate databases, corporate real estate professionals now have much of the needed data. But once you have the data, how can you use it to be more strategic and make better decisions? Is there more to "data-driven" decisions than alerts for key lease dates, spreadsheets, and performance metrics?

This workshop describes some new tools for portfolio optimization and shows how they can provide key insights into corporate real estate portfolios. We will also discuss how traditional tools can be refined to provide better insights.

Bio - Jane Mather, Ph.D

Dr. Mather has been helping real estate professionals find better real estate and infrastructure solutions for nearly 20 years. As president of Critical Core, Inc., she leads the development and application of analytical tools to complement other planning, decision-making, and implementation skills. Based on techniques that have saved millions and improved operating efficiency and productivity in other corporate disciplines, Critical Core‘s approaches help make complex real estate analyses easier and faster, identify better solutions -- saving millions and improving productivity -- and lead to more credibility and confidence in decisions. Critical Core pioneered the use of mathematical portfolio optimization techniques to develop better real estate, location and workplace strategies.

Dr. Mather‘s current work builds on many years of experience in different facets of the real estate industry. At LaSalle Partners and at BCED, the real estate development subsidiary of Bell Canada, she provided real estate investment advisory and research services. She also has practical experience in property management, leasing, and tenant representation.

Before entering the real estate industry, Dr. Mather taught economics at The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, at Dartmouth College, and at Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics in Wuhan, China. She has a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University.
